- Empowering Rural Girls Through Digital Education
Amina, a student from rural Lilongwe, receives her first laptop through the Maso Awards campaign and discovers a new world of learning, coding, and confidence.
Amina, a 15-year-old student from a small village outside Lilongwe, had never touched a laptop before joining the Maso Awards digital education program.
Before the campaign reached her school, her learning was limited to handwritten notes and overcrowded textbooks shared among many students. Despite her strong passion for science and technology, she had never seen what programming or digital learning looked like in practice.
Through the “Empowering Rural Girls Through Digital Education” campaign, Amina received her first laptop, access to learning materials, and mentorship support.
Within weeks, she learned how to type, browse educational resources, and even write her first simple HTML webpage. For the first time, she could explore subjects beyond her classroom syllabus.
Her teachers noticed a dramatic change in her confidence and participation. She began helping other students understand basic computer concepts and became a small role model in her class.
Amina now dreams of becoming a software engineer and building tools that solve problems in rural communities like her own.
The campaign didn’t just give her a device—it opened a pathway to a completely new future.
